Are you hoping for the iPhone 5 sometime in the summer of 2012? If so you were probably one of those consumers who had their hopes held high and was ready for Apple to unveil the iPhone 5 when they took to the stage after the iPhone 4, but then something sudden and unexpected happened. Steve Jobs announced not the iPhone 5, but rather the iPhone 4S, and all hope was lost except for this new voice command technology Siri. Sure it quieted some people down and many saw it as a feasible upgrade. Others however weren’t very impressed since the design was still very traditional and instead decided that they would save their upgrade on their mobile contract for the iPhone 5 which would surely grace the hands of the people in just a short 12 months time.
Most were very impressed with Siri’s capabilities and accurateness and how it would type a text out by just speaking to it. Others used it to instill laughter in others asking Siri something rather lewd and unordinary questions to receive comical responses back from a device. Despite its success, many were looking for some new life breathed into the design of the iPhone 4S, you know something to really make it stand out and be different; offering a glimpse into the future of mobile devices. Sure it had the coveted retina display, some better cameras and a faster processor, but it lacked many of the rumors leading up to its release. Some of those Rumors were a curved display, or an edge to edge screen.

What exactly are consumers looking for in the iPhone5, and are most of the rumors leading up to the iPhone 4S true, but Apple was just saving them for the iPhone 5 refresh? The answer to that is somewhat speculation but it is certainly plausible, especially with Android hot on their heels and the success that Samsung is seeing with their Galaxy line. While the curved display likely won’t make it into the mix, a new design, faster processor, more RAM, and increased display size are very good bits to gamble on. The A5 processor has just about reached its half life meaning that it should be retired and upgraded soon to the A6. Current rumors speculate that the A6 processor will be quad core and that we could even see it in the near future, tucked inside Apple’s upcoming iPad refresh, the iPad 3, or 2S if we’re in for another shock.
In order to make the iPhone 5 the revolution that it should be, Apple is going to have to bring out all the stops when it comes to speed and aesthetics. They undoubtedly have the best following and loyalty behind their iDevices, but their fans want more. Will Apple respond in a way that will satisfy them, that answer is probably a yes, but how far will they be able to go with only one year worth of development and production times. We also have to remember the ongoing battle Apple has had with Samsung in the courtroom over their trademark infringement claims which could be impacting some of their progress. The business relationship is souring and Apple is leading towards other sourcing agents for displays and other technology that is necessary for their devices.

With that said, the display is still going to have to be the Retina Display because it’s the absolute best out there, but whether Sharp or Samsung sources them, Apple needs to push the envelope and make more touch screen real estate. Comparing a Samsung Galaxy phone side by side with the iPhone and it instantly dwarfs it. Sure not everybody likes a large phone or needs a lot of touch screen space, but what about those in the business sector and others who use email and web surfing constantly. The more Apple devices are pushed into the workplace and for the employees, the better they will be accepted if they can make things easier and increase productivity. The only other must have as was mentioned above is going to be raw speed and RAM, in order to make multitasking even better, since it still has plenty of room left for improvement. As the months come closer to unveiling time, more news will surely surface and leak regarding Apple’s intentions with their iPhone 5.
